Job Description

If you are looking for a place to settle down and raise a family in a safe, smaller, midwest city while enjoying working in a thriving, growing practice with state of the art equipment and no big city competition, contact me.  It’s good to be a big fish in a little pond and make an excellent living!!   Maybe re-establishing roots here would be a great opportunity while a still a fairly short drive back to see family in KS or OK.

I started cold in my hometown in 1990 and grew the practice over the years by myself.   Now we have a new, 2,900 sq. ft. stand alone building with 4 lanes all equipped with Marco TRS autophoropters, Marco OPD, Optovue Ivue OCT, Optos Daytona, Icare tonometers, Neurolens screener, Humphrey 540 Visual Field unit and Konan Specular microscope.  We are 50/50 medical care and refractive.

  • We are living the dream here and having fun and I would like to share that with another OD if you are a good fit with our office vision, culture and values.   I would like to have more time off and work a little less ideally but still seeing patients.
  • Dumas is about 50 miles north of Amarillo, TX, midway from DFW to Denver, about 6 hours either way.   We have a diverse economy with oil/gas refineries in the county as well as plenty of farming/ranching.  We have a JBS beef plant and many dairies.  We do not see economic downturns as other places do and our cost of living is low!   Lake Meredith is 20 miles away with great Crappie, Smallmouth and Sand Bass and Walleye fishing.  The mountains are 4 hours away if you like fishing, hiking and camping.  Amarillo is 45 minutes away for more shopping and entertainment, with a good airport for trips out of town.   We go and play when we want easily and then come back home where we feel safe and not much traffic to deal with.  Dumas has great schools with awesome sports programs.   We also have very little crime.  This is Friday Night Lights football games country with homecoming bonfires, 4th of July fireworks and parades,  sweet corn on the town square picnics, baseball games and apple pie      (or sometimes Churros and ice cream).  Americana at it’s best.  Everyone knows you at the grocery store and church.
  • If you speak Spanish, this is especially a great opportunity as well, since our demographics are about 60% Hispanic and 40% Anglo.

Since I am not ready to retire for some time, this could be a great opportunity to buy into a practice slowly to make it more affordable as well as minimize taxes.  I’m praying for the right person to hand over my baby to someday.

If you are looking to get out of the rat race of the big city, this could be your home where you could have a great life.  Contact me if you are interested in learning more.

Our office is the longest established optometry office north of Amarillo, TX.   We have a state of the art, beautiful office that people love coming to and sets the stage for high optical sales.   We have very little competition here.   The office is open Monday thru Friday, 8:00-5:30.   We don't work Sat. or Sundays.

We have state of the art Marco TRS 5100 automated phoropters in all 4 exam lanes.   We utilize the Marco OPD autorefractor/topographer, Optos Daytona, Optovue Ivue OCT, Konan specular microscope and Zeiss Humphrey 540 visual field.   We use Maximeyes.com EHR cloud based system that integrates with SolutionReach patient communication system.

Dr Moore and his wife grew up here and their families are well known.  There is strong loyalty from the patient base and the office has a draw from the upper 4 counties of the Texas Panhandle as well as eastern NM, OK panhandle and southern KS.

Candidate Description

A good fit with our culture and values would be someone that is from West Texas or the midwest and likes living in a small town and appreciates the benefits here.  A person that is passionate about helping others see their best and preventing blindness.  Someone with a healthy work ethic.  The more patients you see, the more income you make.   A person that is personable, friendly, confident and has a good sense of humor.  Our office works hard and is professional  but we do it in a light hearted manner.

Someone that is bilingual in Spanish could really build their patient base quickly due to our demographics having a large amount of Hispanic population.

Our office is customer service driven with a focus on "wowing" the customer with great service and high quality eyewear.  We look for long term relationships with our patients so they will come back with their family and refer others readily.

Ultimately, I am looking for someone that may want to buy into the practice as I age out which make it more financially feasible over the next 10 years for an incoming doctor.

Candidate Requirements

Ideally someone with a Texas OD license with at least some experience out of Optometry school but...I would not rule out a recent graduate if they were a good fit for our community and practice.  I am willing to be a mentor to a younger OD.
